DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY!
Matthew 6:5-8
"When you pray, don't be like hypocrites. They like to stand in synagogues and on street corners to pray so that everyone can see them. I can guarantee this truth: That will be their only reward. When you pray, go to your room and close the door. Pray privately to your Father who is with you. Your Father sees what you do in private. He will reward you. "When you pray, don't ramble like heathens who think they'll be heard if they talk a lot. Don't be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Most of my private prayers are twenty words or less. I'm somewhat amused when in large gatherings where we share a meal, and someone is asked to bless the food and the prayer goes on and on. They will pray for the souls of those in attendance, traveling mercies for those returning home, the victims of the lastest natural disasters, and on and on. Now listen, it is right to pray for those things, but when asking God to bless the meal ... ask God to bless the meal.
Those same endless prayers will be liberally sprinkled with "thee", "thou", and "Father God". I'm not sure why some people think that God speaks old English. And why do they think His attention wanders and it is necessary to keep repeating his name like a child calling, " Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!"
Here is the secret to public prayer, keep the focus on God.
